Some people argue that email marketing is the original form of social networking. Whether you believe that to be true or not, email is still the number one activity online and the effectiveness of a well executed email marketing campaign cannot be disputed. During my many engagements as an email marketing consultant, clients are surprised to find out how quickly and inexpensively a campaign can be set up and how much return they can get on their time and investment. There is simply no better way to build and maintain relationships with your customers and prospects.
Email Marketing Facts:
- 247 billion emails are sent each day.
- By the time you finish reading this sentence, 20 million emails will be sent.
- $13.4 billion will be spent on email marketing in 2009.
- $583 billion will be the return on that investment (according to DMA statistics).
The bottom line is that businesses use email marketing campaigns because they work. They work because email campaigns are quick and inexpensive to set up; they allow targeting and segmentation; they drive direct sales; they help foster relationships, loyalty and trust; and they generate great statistics and data that can be used to continually refine and enhance the campaign.
Of course, all of the above statements are true if, and only if, your email marketing campaign is set up, executed, and managed properly. I would be remiss if I didn’t advocate the utilization of an email marketing consultant to help get your campaign on the right track.
